Frequently Asked Questions
There’s a lot of these FAQs
Yes. But that wasn’t a question. But to answer your… er statement… we put up all the FAQs we could think of and then add any new questions and their answers as we get them. So please contact us with any queries you may have by email: contact@actbookings.com or phone: 07827 023607.
In fact, feel free to contact us even if you just want to have a chat about what we do.
Why Don’t You Name the Acts?
Simply put, this is the agreement we have with their agents. The acts we book are top working professionals – whether that means they headline the biggest comedy clubs, have lead parts in West End Shows, or are top of the bill cabaret, corporate, or cruise ship workers. The agents won’t allow us to advertise that they work for these prices and venues can’t advertise the shows on the acts’ names.
Why Do the Acts Work for These Prices?
We guarantee them all the dates upfront. We also take the dates that are often quiet. Good acts are often booked on Fridays and Saturdays for up to a year in advance. Those same brilliant acts might have a lot of free Monday and Tuesday nights. It’s just the nature of the business. The workers (the ones who want to perform) would rather work at a lower rate but have a full diary – than just get the occasional Sunday to Thursday booking.
Do You Really Not Book any Friday or Saturday Shows?
Sort of. If you mean at the low prices on this website, then there are times when we are able to. It really depends on acts becoming free. We contact our email list when this is the case, or if you are not on the email list you can ask us. But under normal circumstances the rest of this paragraph is true: We couldn’t book a quiz night on a Friday or Saturday – as we’d not be able to get any of our quizmasters for a sensible price. Singing Shows, or Comedy Shows can be booked but the price would be considerably higher. Unless you are a major venue and expect to sell a lot of tickets – it wouldn’t be viable. The children’s show might be possible, but only if the show was at an earlier enough time to not affect the performers' evening work.
What, You Can’t Book Singing Shows At All?
This was true for the last 6 months of 2023. We were only booking acts to existing customers. Well, we could do Sundays [for new customers]. Even then they would need to be half and half shows. The first half being comedy or comedy magic, and the second being the singing show. This was due to all our singers at that time having lead parts in West End Shows. UPDATE as of May 2024 we can book singers for a limited time into shows on most dates. This obviously fluctuates depending on availability. Check with us for the latest on singer availability.
Can’t You Get Some More Singers to Take the Gigs?
We could do, but we have a strict rule about the quality of the acts we book. We are in a fourth decade of putting on shows. We learned early on to only work with the best, both in talent and attitude. We’d rather turn down the work, for now, but know that our reputation for excellence is intact. Simply put, our singing shows are ONLY performed by top professionals who have played lead parts in the biggest shows. From December onwards, we may take bookings again. For now, we can only book singing shows on Sundays. UPDATE as of May 2024 we are booking singers in for all dates - except December 2024.
Can We Sell Tickets?
Yes, of course you can. When you buy a show/night – that’s it, it’s yours. You have bought and paid for the performer/s. Whether it’s a fundraiser, a business, or just to get your money back – feel free to promote the night and sell tickets.
We Can Promote the Night How We Wish?
You can promote the night how you wish; except you can’t name the acts. If you have a regular host – or singer – you can tell people they will be back next time, you just can’t publish or put a poster up that says that or gives their name. Again, this is due to our agreement with the acts agents.
Is There a Limit on How Many We Can Have In the Audience?
No. You have booked the show - we will play to any sized audience.
Do All Your Acts Have Their DBS?
All the acts who work in family shows do. We have gone the extra mile on that as not only those acts, but everyone from the driver to those in the office have their basic DBS check. Now, the children show performers who have direct contact with the children; they don’t just have their basic DBS, they all have their full enhanced DBS.
Insurance and Safety?
All our sets and props have been safety checked. This includes all the electrics for the lighting and sound. All our acts have a fully inclusive £10,000,000 Public Liability insurance policy.
What Parts of the Country Do You Actually Cover?
In theory, we cover the entire world. Practically, we are mostly targeting venues in London and the surrounding counties. But if you are further afield, do contact us and we can see if we can make it work. We have acts touring in number one theatre shows - so could possibly have an act near you on the date/s you are after.
If Our Venue is Further Away, Do We Have to Pay Extra?
If you are 20 miles, or less, from E14 5AA (Canary Wharf, London) then there is no extra charge. Anything further is charged at £1 per each mile.
Do You Do Discounts for if We Book Multiple Shows?
Yes. See each page of the website for the offers.
So, We Get a Discount for Being a New Customer?
Yes. We love our existing customers, and they love the shows/acts we send them. There are deals for existing customers. They are not as competitive as those for new customers who are trying out our services. If you book a show – you are no longer a new customer – so the New Customer Discount is only for your first booking with us.
Do You Ever Have New Acts On?
At first, I wasn’t sure why this venue wanted unexperienced acts on. Having a conversation with them, I get the query now. To be clear, all the acts we book, singers, magicians, comedians, children’s entertainers, etc – they all have a heap of experience. Or to put it another way, the acts you pay for will never be new acts. But yes, we can and sometimes do, put on newer acts. In particular, for the comedy shows. We’ll often have a local do a spot in the middle of the professional show you have paid for. We do this, as it’s great for the night. It brings in friends and family to watch and sells extra rounds of Dutch courage and celebratory post gig drinks. So, yes, we occasionally put on newer acts doing shorter sets. You are not paying for these acts. The venue who asked wanted to know regarding a singing night. This is a very rare ask, but yes, if a local wants to get up and sing, we can book that in. The key is, book it in. We won’t put ‘open spots’ on, on the night. They will need to come back to the next show. This benefits you the venue, as that means they will come back next time, and have time to get a gang of supporters to come and witness the event. It also benefits us, as we can’t book acts out and have open spots ‘sprung’ on them on the night.
Will You Need a Place to Park?
If you have booked us to bring the equipment, then yes. We will need a parking space on the day of the show – ideally near the performance space – as there is a fair amount of heavy speakers, amps, and wire boxes to carry in.
We Are in the Congestion Charge Zone. Will it Cost Extra?
If you have booked us to bring the equipment, then sadly, yes. The show needs to be brought to you by vehicle. We tried to convince the actors to carry all the speakers, leads, mics and props on their backs – but they weren’t up for that. If your venue is in the congestion zone, then you will be charged an extra £15.
This is the Last FAQs But I Still Have Questions?
Sorry about that, we should have put one of our mind reading acts in charge of this page of the website. Please contact us with any query or just for a chat about our shows by email: or phone: 07827 023607.
